“I don’t NEED to sell, I just want to get rid of it…”

We’ve seen all kinds of situations. Below are a couple stories from people that really didn’t need to sell, but wanted to. After they did sell and get a fair price for their house, they were happy it was over. If you can relate to wanting to sell but not needing to, we can help!

Jan’s storage house

Jan (name changed for privacy reasons) owned a house in a nice part of town in OKC. She had the house paid off for years so there was no expense on her end except for taxes and insurance and mowing the grass. Her problem was she moved out of state to Texas years ago to be closer to her family.

Since she had been in the OKC house so long, she decided not to sell it. What if she came back and needed a place to stay? Did she really want to sell all the stuff left in the house she didn’t have room for? What if her kids wanted to move back to Oklahoma?

Needless to say, none of those what-if’s ever happened. Everyone stayed in Texas. Jan never came back. The house sat empty except for some dusty furniture and squirrels that got in.

The problem was Jan never needed to sell. There was no bank foreclosing on her. No mortgage payment to make. Her neighbors were wonderful and kept a look over the house. She kept worrying about the house though. What if something happened to it? Was her stuff alright in there? It didn’t help that insurance on an empty house kept going up. Then property taxes got more expensive.

One week in July, she got a ticket from the city for tall grass. Her lawn guy didn’t show up. $300 for the city to mow your lawn. This got her thinking…why do I still own this house? So, she found us online and we bought the house plus everything in it for a fair price. Jan didn’t even have to come into Oklahoma. We paid for a mobile notary to meet her at her house in Texas with the closing documents. She didn’t ever need to sell but afterwards, she told us it felt good not having to worry about the house or think about it or anything else.

Jacob’s old rental house

Jacob had a rental house in Oklahoma City for years. His last tenant tore up the place a bit. Jacob was an older guy….retired too. We won’t go into specifics but let’s just say he was well off and wouldn’t want for money for the rest of his life. For all he cared the house could blow away or stay vacant for the rest of his life.

If he sold it he didn’t get much benefit. If he fixed it up he didn’t get much benefit. All he knew was these 2 things:

1. He didn’t want to mess with the house any more
2. He wasn’t about to give the house away for nothing

So, we came across Jacob one day and he told us about this house. We looked at it and worked out a deal where we bought the house from him. We paid a fair price (more than we wanted actually) and he got to take the house off his mind. It’s now remodeled and rented to a nice family.

The bottom line for selling a house when you don’t need to

It has to be a win-win situation for anything to work. We aren’t trying to buy houses for $1 and you aren’t trying to sell a $50,000 house for $200,000. If we can find a solution to take over a house you just don’t want any longer that works for BOTH OF US….then we are open to talking.
